Open Wed – Sun, 10:30am - 4:30pm
A must-visit for lovers of history, architecture and gardens, this rambling Gothic mansion is the legacy of early colonial Alfred Buckland - businessman, farmer and father of 21 children - who made a lasting contribution to provincial Auckland during the 19th century. Explore the Victorian-themed grounds, featuring high hedges, mature specimen trees, a fern house, lawn tennis and croquet courts, as well as a meandering ‘Lovers Walk’ (and the Whimsical Garden - a favourite with kids!).
Open Wed – Sun, 10:30am - 4:30pm
An elegant residence with a nod to the Raj, and with an intriguing history of socialite suffragettes, high tea and ballroom capers, Alberton is a delight to all who enter. Auckland’s most romantic timber mansion has an extensive collection of original artifacts and a gorgeous heritage garden.
Open Sun 10:30am - 4:30pm
The kauri-constructed Ewelme Cottage has a link with the Anglican community in Auckland, the dwelling designed and built by the Reverend Vicesimus Lush (1817-1882) and his wife Blanche in 1863-64. With well-preserved interiors and furnishings, a charming cottage garden, as well as a fantastic collection of artefacts, Ewelme Cottage provides a revealing glimpse of middle-class Victorian domestic life.
